Kayak Fundraiser

Starting with Earth Fair, on Saturday, June 19, 2010, and continuing until the end of Fall, 2010 the Smithville Conservancy will be conducting a fundraiser which began with the construction of a wooden Kayak by a professional kayak craftsman, continues with the artistic adorning of the kayak by a professional artist, and a public raffle for the final product at the end of the year. Follow the link below for a description of the entire project:

Special Earth Fair Edition of the "Star News"

Proceeds from the raffle (tickets are $10.00) will assist the Smithville Conservancy in providing assistance to the Burlington County Parks Department in the ongoing preservation of the Smithville Industrial Village.

The Wood Duck 12 Hybrid

The kayak kit was purchased from the Chesapeake Light Craft Company (click to visit their website). The partially made Kayak made its debut at Earth Fair on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Smithville.

The kayak was assembled by Geoff McKonly, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory (click to visit their website).

The Wood Duck 12 Hybrid is now completed. An artist, soon to be selected, will enhance the kayak with unique ornamentation to give it that "one-of-a-kind" look.

There is a 12" x 19" oval hatch on the front top of the Kayak. Artists are invited to submit a natural or historic design for this panel. Click here for the prospectus for this competition.

Raffle tickets will be sold from June 19 through October 17 at various events at Smithville and from members of the Smithville Conservancy. It will be raffled off to a lucky winner on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at the Gazebo on Park Avenue in Smithyville Park.

Contact the Smithville Conservancy for information on raffle ticket sales. A limited number of tickets will be sold at $10.00 per ticket.
