Built some 25 years before H.B. Smith's arrival in Burlington County , the Greek Revival mansion symbolizes in its buildings and gardens the complexity of its most famous owner.
Much of the interest in this website focuses on history and photography. In this section we intend to provide access to as many photos as possible through our use of our "Webshots" site. Over 400 Smithville-related photos have been uploaded to "Webshots" and can be accessed by the public in several ways . We have created three basic categories of photos:
1. Smithville Now - This section contains photos of Smithville taken at different periods since Burlington County assumed ownership of the property in 1975 and developed it into a County Park. These photos will consist of restoration projects, most recently the restoration of the Park Avenue streetscape and related locations in the upper village. It will also highlight photose of public trails and nature scenes throughout the park.
2. Smithville Then - This section contains vintage photos of life at Smithville during its heyday from the 1860's through the 1960's. Also included in this section will be old sketches, maps and pictures from the era before H.B. Smith purchased the property.
3. Events Photo Archive - This section will focus on past public events held at Smithville, such as Earth Fair, Arts in the Park, The Fall Foliage Float, and fundraisers for the Smithville Conservancy such as the Annual Mystery Dinner productions and the Smithville-Mount Holly Grand Prix.
You may acces each section by licking on each of these sub-sections on the menu in the side bar to the left of this narrative. Or, you may click on the headings defining these links in the section above.
